Statement of Intent

 Statement of Intent

In my covers and contents pages of my magazine, I plan to use different codes and conventions that would appeal to a 16-25 year old audience. I will be doing this through use of language, colour schemes, and try to relate my content to the current times. So in the first pair of magazine cover and contents page I will take inspiration from fairly simple real-life story magazine covers, as I don’t believe a busy looking cover would appeal to my desired target audience. I plan to achieve this through using collaging techniques to create the main focal image and then have additional photos and text over the top too. This whole issue will focus on the recent lockdowns and how they have affected people in the community. I believe this idea will fit nicely into the genre of real-life story magazines as the majority tend to have a main topic with multiple stories to do with it. In the cover and the contents page I plan to use the same fonts, but changing the sizes depending on their impact. I also plan on including an ‘exclusive’ interview with members of the public on their stories of getting Coronavirus and how they’ve overcome it. For the contents page I plan to use the same colour schemes and theme as I would on the cover which will consist of blue, pink, yellow and purple, I believe that by doing this it would be able to give the magazine a nice flow and look.

In my second pair of cover and contents page, I plan to put this issues focus on back to school, as my primary target audience for my magazines are in education or have left very recently. In this issue I plan to include stories relating to all types of school life from high school to university life. My colour schemes will stay consistent throughout both issues as I feel this will create a link between them. I believe that my colour scheme will hold a much more modern look, compared to some real-life story magazines that use stereotypical feminine colours such as pink. Even though I will also be including pink in my colour scheme I feel that it gives it a modern twist to appeal to the younger target audience. Similar to my previous issue I also plan on creating an ‘exclusive’ feature issue that will include an interview from students in the same age bracket as the target audience and will consist of an interview on how they feel about returning to college after the events of the ongoing pandemic. I once again plan on using the same fonts and colour schemes for the contents page too, which will also feature multiple images too.

The way in which I plan on creating this ‘brand’ type style of real-life magazine is by using similar codes and conventions in them, but also not making them exactly the same as this could turn away the intended audience from wanting to buy it. So for my main title of the magazine I will keep the same positioning on each issue, and it will also use the same font and colours in that area too, to give the audience a sense of familiarity. The layouts of the images and font sizes however will change, this will help to adapt the cover to the different types of typography on the cover. I plan on using a block colour banner at the bottom of each cover as this will allow me to tell the audience what each particular magazine issue will focus on.
